Don't have characters die just for the sake of having someone die, evening for setting establishes many characters can die… Doing a death for shock value ones might be okay, but be prepared for the consequences from readers… Also, if whatever plot points you're trying to establish can be done if the character is alive, keep that character alive (even if they're only purpose in the story at that point is flashbacks or other side events)… It's better than having the audience get annoyed at a senseless death…

If you're dealing with sensitive content, make sure your knowing what to do with it. Ask yourself if it's really needed for the development of the story, and if it is what action to take to make it relevant but also appropriate or not taken the wrong way (from just a warning to reworking a story itself). Also, always make sure to do research, but especially if you're going to have potentially sensitive content. Portraying that the wrong way can not only send a negative message, but also be incredibly offensive.

Take breaks with your writing, but make sure that they are not so long that you lose that connection to your story. You know the one. Where it feels like this treasure, this crowning achievement that no one can take from you. Don´t ever lose that feeling. I´ve made that mistake several times, and it took a good while to get it back.

Here's a tip. An oddly specific tip. Don't ask why.

If in your fictional story you want to have a badass fictional organization that likes to control things from the shadows, that has great influence and power.... you have to actually make that organization do something.

They can't just sit there and do nothing. Because then it makes no sense for anyone who knows about them to respect them.

If the fictional world is going to shit, and this organization exists... then this organization is incompetent. It serves no purpose. Why is it there, and why should people even think about respecting it.

I know, oddly specific tip with a hint of salt, but don't make something exist if it hasn't done anything or isn't going to do anything.

I think the biggest thing people forget is the plan out writing. Sure, you might run into some frustrations along the way, it takes longer, and the whole thing is slower. But a well planned out story and researched that takes a longer time to update or be published will be much better than a story that was haphazardly written in an effort to get something done.

If you're having trouble finding the words that capture/convey the impact of the scene you're writing, don't hesitate to pop onto Youtube and try to find music that'd work as a backdrop (or as I like to call it, the musical carpet). Feel free to look around the comments as well; a few aspiring poets or music critics will usually congregate there, with nice descriptions as to what makes the musical piece special. And in those descriptions you will often find what you sought. If not, then take a load off and enjoy the music. Just relax, and the answer will come to you.
